Bitumen is manufactured from crude oil as the last residue of fractional distillation, further treated and blended into paving-grade products. Also known as "asphalt cement," it is waterproofing, insulating, UV-resistant and adhesive by nature.

Paving Grade

Straight Run Bitumen

Paving-grade bitumen used as the primary binder in hot mix asphalt. Supplied under our authorized Ceylon Petroleum Corporation distribution.

Bitumen Emulsions

Bitumen emulsions are dispersions of minute bitumen droplets (5–10 micrometres) in water, with bitumen content typically between 30% and 70%. They let contractors work without the heating normally required for cutback and paving-grade bitumen — the emulsion "breaks" and sets once applied to the road surface.

Cationic emulsions are the most widely used today, since their positively charged bitumen globules better coat most aggregate types for greater adhesion.

Application

Prime Coat

Applied at 0.5–1.4 L/m² to bond and dust-proof a prepared unbound base before surfacing.

Application

Tack Coat

Applied at 0.2–0.4 L/m² between hot mix layers to prevent slippage and separation.

Application

Cold Applications

Workable at ambient temperature — ideal where heating equipment isn't practical on site.

Reduced Viscosity

Bitumen Cutback

Bitumen is "cutback" by adding controlled amounts of petroleum distillates such as kerosene, reducing viscosity so it can penetrate pavements more effectively or be sprayed at temperatures too cold for neat bitumen. The diluent evaporates after application, leaving hardness similar to the original bitumen.

Cutback bitumen is categorized by curing rate: Rapid Curing (RC), Medium Curing (MC) and Slow Curing (SC).

Application

Prime & Tack Coating

Applied to an unbound base at 0.5–1.4 L/m², or as a tack coat at 0.2–0.4 L/m².

Application

Prime Sealing

Protects the pavement for up to 6–12 months where temperatures are too cool to prime effectively.

Application

Spray Sealing

Sprayed onto primed pavement before aggregate is laid — favoured in cooler weather for better stone retention.

Industrial Fuel

Furnace Fuel

Supplied under our authorized Ceylon Petroleum Corporation distribution, alongside our bitumen product range, for industrial furnace and boiler applications.

Patch Repair

Cold Mix Asphalt

Ready-to-use asphalt mix for patch repairs and maintenance without heating equipment on site. Formulated with an emulsified bituminous compound and 12 mm graded aggregate.

Available in 50 kg bags
Anticorrosive

Bituminous Anticorrosive Paint (BAP)

A proportional mix of oxidized bitumen, solvents and additives for rust-proof coating on steel works, metal surfaces and underground/underwater piping. Resistant to low concentrations of alkali and acids, and withstands prolonged oxidation.

Crack Repair

Asphalt Crack Sealing Solution (ACSS)

A bitumen emulsion for sealing asphalt surface cracks under 10 mm — no heating required, and works with cold, even damp, aggregates. Simply pour into the crack, allow it to penetrate for 10 minutes, then sand-seal.

CM

Cold Mix Asphalt profile: designed for civil, industrial and construction applications. It can be applied over well-compacted surfaces or concrete, walked on immediately after compaction, and opened to heavier traffic after 24–48 hours.

Coverage

Application Rate

A 50 kg bag covers approximately 0.4 m² at 25 mm compacted depth. The mix continues to harden after compaction.

Method

Surface Preparation

Clear loose debris, screenings, weeds and excess dust. Apply CRS1 Tack Coat, screed the cold mix to level and shape, then compact with a hand rammer, vibrating plate or roller.

Storage

Handling

Best stored at room temperature. Avoid freezing conditions and direct storage on concrete floors. Shelf life is approximately 12 months.

Applications

Road Repairs

Suitable for asphalt repairs, utility cuts, patching, potholes, trenches, footpaths and speed humps.

Applications

Commercial Areas

Can be used for car parks, driveways, kerb and concrete abutments to asphalt.

Applications

Sports Surfaces

Suitable for tennis courts and other sports surface maintenance where cold-applied asphalt repair is required.
